9 Reasons We Cannot Do Without Technology in Our Life Today

Human life without technology is like birds without feathers. We cannot imagine to survive without technology in today’s fast-moving world. The Corona virus pandemic has moreover proven, the importance of technology in our daily lives. We can use it to stay connected, work, communicate and basically survive. When grocery stores and markets were locked down, technology helped us with our food necessities too. Those who have managed to save their employment during the pandemic, have done so with the help of technology. Technology survives researchers, authors and academicians too. It has a huge contribution in the field of education. Researchers can use technology for thesis publication; teachers can use it for educating their students and learners can use it for self-development. Technology in the form of internet has made almost everything possible from anywhere. Remote existence is in fact the by-product of technology.

Let’s look at 9 ways in which technology boosts our lives:

  1. Internet– Globalization wouldn’t have been possible without internet. The fact that we can connect and work from any part of the world is because we have internet. We can have client meets and requirements from all over the globe and we can assimilate information and process delivery because we have internet. In fact, COVID has proven that internet can keep our lives going even when we are locked down in houses, barely anything is affected for our work, if it is internet based. Internet has also given us easy access to information and knowledge via Google, Wikipedia and other sources, therefore, we no longer require to remember so much information in the form of memory. We can use the brain space elsewhere.
  2. Communication– The foremost purpose of technology is communication. Social media and other technological applications have brought families together. Today we can find long lost school mates over Facebook, twitter, Instagram and we can reinstate our communication. In fact, we can even communicate with world leaders, prominent figures over these platforms. Communication is required in professional fields as well, and technology ensures that we can communicate with the world from wherever we are. We cannot imagine our lives without a smart phone, but there was a time when there were no mobile phones at all. Families are much less worried about their children these days, because phones give them the information about the whereabouts of children, so they are much more relieved about their safety than they were before. Global work culture has been promoted with technological communications. Today its no longer an issue to interact with family while working in any part of the world.
  3. Knowledge– Gone are those days, when we had to run from one library to another within our city to find books and materials for our school-college projects. Even then we would not get the appropriate information required in research work. But today, with the help of Google, we are able to browse, any type of and any amount of information required for thesis publication. There are millions of journal databases which provide us with enriched articles for our projects. Even for enlightenment and knowledge, we can browse the web. We can learn if we want at any age, anywhere, because we have internet and computer.
  4. Education– Knowledge and education go hand in hand. Technology has shown us how we can overcome the barriers of time and place with computer and internet. This has made education more accessible and affordable to people across the world. Today, one person in India can learn from Harvard or MIT, even from their home, because of online educational platforms which enriches learning. Online school and college are not just an idea or luxury; it is a necessity especially when there is a pandemic situation. Online learning is much more cost effective for students and universities, so every other university has shifted their programs online. This is in fact, gen-next education system where schools will move online for affordable and uninterrupted learning. Besides technological gadgets like kindle and tablet are making reading and writing easier and lighter.
  5. Security– Technology provides us security. Several home security devices like spy scam, door cam, anti-theft applications are linked with our smart phones. Most of them are electronically built for better safety and security purposes. Today we use a camera to see who stands outside our door, in place of an eye-hole. We can, talk to the person before opening the door. In fact, other smart technologies like drones are being developed by companies to ensure our home safety which can detect intrusion and automatically record illegal activities happening inside our home. We will be automatically informed if someone has broken into our house with these smart devices. Again, mobile phones make us very confident on streets. When we have a gadget of communication, we know we can make a call whenever in trouble.
  6. Record Keeping– Technology has helped us survive in major ways of saving and storing data. Offices no longer have to maintain stacks of files with information and data about everyone and everything. Technology has helped save a lot of paper and space in the real world, because we can have soft copies of record today.
  7. Automation and Robotics– This is still a huge growing industry. Manufacturers are working to design technologies that can learn and function on their own like a human being. Electronic automated cars are trending. There are factories and industries which already use robots to perform some strenuous activities. Today we do not even require anybody to operate a vacuum cleaner. We have robotics to clean our houses on their own. Automation also reduces workforce and it is a serious concern in the corporate world however, it makes task easier and cheaper for stakeholders.
  8. Conversational Systems– Technology has helped us design bots to assist us. A company’s website no longer connects you to a human service provider. Instead, a chatbot starts the initial conversation with you to get the details of your problem, after which a service agent is connected to if required. These systems can be beneficial for anyone including researchers and scientists. They can use chatbots to communicate with their fellow students, or with journals and publishers for thesis publication Conversational systems are helpful especially for small or medium enterprises where so much manual labor for customer service section is unaffordable.
  9. Entertainment– Technology has contributed heavily to the world of entertainment. We have always relied on technology for our entertainment. Earlier we had television and radio, but now we have upgraded entertainment systems which serve us the way we want them to. From video and computer games to smart televisions, a wide range of technological inventions have helped us engage our free time. Even today, movie watching is no longer limited to a theatre space. The way we read on a computer, we watch movies on digital platforms. Online streaming platforms and applications are moving the entertainment world to a complete digitization mode.

Technology can save lives. Major operations, scans and medical diagnoses happen through scientific and technological discoveries. Communication, work and education are almost impossible without technology today. For researchers and academicians, thesis publication can easily happen in a remote environment, which involve technology. Technology has filled our time with meaningful content and entertainment so that we feel satisfied and happy. But technology also have some ill-effects like most other consumptions. So, we must embrace the good aspects of technology in our lives while selectively avoiding the inappropriate results.
