4 Impacts of AI in Academic World
We, humans, used to consider intelligence as something that belongs only to us. But now we have realized that it is there outside of human beings. AI or Artificial Intelligence has changed the entire look of the academic world. Nowadays computers are taking part in poetry competitions, who would’ve thought one day this would be possible? Now you can take its help to write and publish your thesis. AI is developing in a fast and steady way and those who are still skeptical about using it in academia, have a good chance of lagging behind.
- Editing Your Thesis- Editing is as complicated a job as writing; sometimes even more difficult. There was a time when people gottired of looking for a good editor who would help them edit and publish their thesis professionally. But now there are various software that can help researchers edit their own thesis in a way they see fit. Now we have ProWritingAid, Grammarly, AutoCrit and many free software too that will categorise and edit manuscripts according to the genre and content. These software not just edit, they can even adjust tones of the language. Pretty amazing, isn’t it? This boosts researchers to create more and publish more quality content.
- Threat of Being Replaced – One idea that keeps haunting everyone is that someday AI will replace human beings. These software will eliminate humans from the race. To be honest, these software might replace humans someday because now we are doing a six hours job in less than three. It not just saves time, it saves energy and delivers more accurate results. To make AI even smarter, Google and Stanford University of Massachusetts have started a project. They have introduced AI to eleven thousand books to improve its natural language. By 2050, AI will be able to write bestsellers without any human interference.
- Quantity over Quality – As discussed earlier, AI is not at all slackening, rather it’s finding new applications. If it continues happening, soon there will be so much content that it will create a creative explosion. We will have too much to read. It might sound cool but there’s one problem. Even though AI has creativity, it’s inadequate when it comes to deciphering the human psyche. So, there’s a chance of the creations being imperfect.
- Wave of Unemployment- AI can be a good substitute for the human mind. Soon there will be no need for human supervision on AI, which might create a wave of unemployment. Fields like edition, publishing and journalism are using AI in many of their tasks. AI is healthy for the budget too as they cost much less from an actual human employee.
After everything we must not forget one thing that we are the one who created Artificial Intelligence, therefore erasing us from the competition completely will not be an easy job. Creativity cannot survive without human touch. At some point it will need to be supervised and perfected. Emotional intelligence cannot be installed, it is acquired through experience and only human beings can do that.
